New York University law professor Yochai Benkler has argued that open source works because programming is a "granular" task - the job of coding a massive piece of software can be broken into many small pieces - and because the Internet allows the rapid collating and peer filtering of work done by thousands of dispersed individuals. If it had a slogan, it might be "We report, we decide." It's a new form of journalism, reminiscent less of old-fashioned investigative reporting than of the decentralized "peer production" that generates open source software.

Hella Jeff drives the car into a lake, at which point it slowly begins to sink.Stories that might never be broken if a single reporter had to spend days researching them are now being covered by dilettante swarms rather than diligent professionals. It is revealed that Sweet Bro's sock problem was simply a distraction, so that he could take the car unnoticed. While Sweet Bro continues his tirade, Hella Jeff sneaks out of the house and steals the car as he backs out of the driveway past Geromy, who is still standing on the lawn. Aggravated by this turn of events, Sweet Bro begins to shout at Hella Jeff, stating that Hella Jeff's misplacement of socks is a common occurrence and goes on a rant. The next panel reveals that Hella Jeff's questioning has not only interrupted Sweet Bro's gaming, but that the socks are lying on the ground in plain sight. After meeting Geromy outside of the house, the next scene features Hella Jeff asking Sweet Bro if he has seen his socks. This installment of the Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff series introduces a new character, Geromy, a friend of Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff. Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff: The Sock Ruse is the 7th video by Seinfeldspitstain and the 4th video in the Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff series.
